FAQ: A new way to join Mindrift — open to everyone

We recently introduced a new, faster way to get started on Mindrift. Previously, the only way to contribute to the platform was to apply with a CV, test your knowledge with assessments or interviews.

Now, you can access tasks in minutes — no application process, no waiting. Here’s how it works.

What's new?

The traditional path to becoming a Mindrift contributor — CVs, assessments, interviews — still exists. This path is for professionals looking to participate in specialized projects. Typically, these projects are open to experts with experience, education, and deep knowledge in specialized fields like STEM, medicine, and law.

The second path grants contributors access to all-access tasks. These tasks are open to everyone and require no domain expertise, prior experience, or specific education. They’re clear, self-contained tasks you can start on right away.

Why did we make this change?

We want to lower the barrier to entry for contributors interested in AI training without extra steps. The traditional process made sense for specialized projects where expertise matters, but for general annotation tasks, it added a delay without adding value.

Opening up our registration process lets us match people to the right kind of tasks faster, while keeping the deeper screening process in place where it's genuinely needed.

What do all-access tasks look like?

All-access tasks are available to all contributors on Mindrift. In practice, they cover two broad areas:

  • Classic data annotation: Like labeling, tagging images, drawing boxes around objects, or transcribing short clips

  • Lightweight AI review: Like comparing two AI outputs and picking the better one, checking if a result actually matches what was searched for, or flagging sensitive content

These tasks exist alongside specialized projects on the platform, and the two aren't in competition — they're built for different purposes. The difference isn’t the type of task, but the level of expertise required:

  • All-access tasks: Low complexity, short duration, and no specialized knowledge needed

  • Specialized projects: High complexity, more time-intensive, and an experience background required

Who can join?

Anyone with access to a computer can join! These tasks don’t call for specialized knowledge, but they do require skills like:

  • Patience

  • Attention to detail

  • Motivation

  • Ability to understand and follow instructions

Whether you’re a student, stay at home parent, professional, or anyone in between, all-access tasks are a good way to supplement your income, try AI training, and help build better, more useful AI models.

How does it work?

The new registration process takes only a few minutes, letting you jump into all-access tasks right away.

FAQ

1. Do I still need to apply the old way for specialized tasks?

Yes. If you want access to tasks requiring domain expertise, you'll still go through the CV, assessment, and onboarding process.

2. Can I upgrade from all-access tasks to specialized projects later?

Yes. You can add your CV and domain experience in your profile at any time. If we feel you’re a good fit for a specialized project, we’ll reach out to you.

3. Is there a limit to how many all-access tasks I can complete?

No. There’s no limit — as long as you have available tasks on your dashboard, you can keep participating. Once tasks run out, keep an eye on your dashboard, new tasks pop up all the time.

4. Do all-access tasks pay the same as specialized projects?

No. Specialized projects typically offer higher rates because they often deal with more complex topics, are more time-intensive, and require deep knowledge of a specific domain. All-access tasks are typically less complex and can be completed by everyone. The depth of knowledge required reflects the task rates.

5. How much do all-access tasks pay?

Rates are calculated per task. Contributors are paid for every completed and accepted task — that means your submission will go through a review process to ensure it meets the guidelines provided. You’ll always see the exact task rate before starting.

6. When can I withdraw my earnings?

Earnings are paid out every two weeks for completed and accepted tasks via Payoneer or Tipalti (PayPal).
