From engineering to AI: Vanice's transformative journey

In this article, Vanice shares her inspiring journey from studying civil engineering to finding her true calling as an AI Tutor. Despite financial struggles and the challenges of traditional job hunting, Vanice discovered Mindrift and transformed her life. She reveals how working in AI has provided her with flexibility, financial stability, and a sense of purpose, offering valuable insights for anyone considering a career in this dynamic field.

Be the ‘I’ in AI

As a civil engineer by training, I never envisioned a career in artificial intelligence (AI). However, my journey led me to become an AI Tutor, a role that has been both transformational and fulfilling.

During university, I struggled financially, juggling menial jobs to pay for tuition and living expenses. One day, I decided to explore online work opportunities. Initially, I found some small jobs that helped me get by, but everything changed for the better when I discovered Mindrift.

My first steps with Mindrift

One afternoon, while searching for online work, I stumbled upon an advertisement for an AI Tutor position at Mindrift. Recognizing that I had the necessary skills, I applied immediately. After passing a series of tests, I joined the platform, and my life took a significant turn for the better.

At the time, I had finished school but couldn’t find meaningful employment. I started focusing on Mindrift tasks, steadily improving my skills and increasing my income. This job provided the financial security I needed, allowing me to leave traditional job hunting behind.

Working as an AI Tutor offers flexibility and control over my earnings, unlike traditional jobs. Over the past six months, I’ve enjoyed the freedom to set my own hours and the ability to earn based on my efforts.

Opportunities in AI Tutoring

As an AI Tutor, I engage in various projects, such as writing prompts, writing responses to prompts, summarizing, rewriting, extracting information, and performing inferencing tasks. These tasks are intellectually stimulating and align with my passion for writing and acquiring knowledge.

A Life transformed

Coming from a modest background, I struggled to find meaningful work after graduation. But since becoming an AI tutor, my financial situation has improved dramatically. I’m now able to support my family financially and even help some family members secure their own online jobs. The respect and recognition I’ve gained from my peers because of that are invaluable. In short, this platform has been positively life-transforming.

Balancing work and life

While I still take on other online jobs, I dedicate most of my time to Mindrift, working up to eight hours a day. I balance my remaining hours between other gigs and personal time, enjoying the flexibility to decide my schedule. On weekends, I have the choice to work or take time off, depending on my mood.

What I like most about being an AI Tutor

The variety and exposure to different disciplines are the most exciting aspects of being an AI Tutor. For someone who loves knowledge, this job is incredibly rewarding. The flexibility and financial benefits make it an ideal career.

The importance of human input in LLM training

As someone who contributes to and uses Large Language Models (LLMs), I can attest to the importance of human input in training these models. Humans ensure that the training data is relevant, high-quality, and free from biases and stereotypes. We bring domain expertise, fine-tune models, and evaluate their accuracy. Additionally, ethical considerations like privacy and data security require human oversight.

Developing future skills as an AI Tutor

My role as an AI Tutor is both impactful and meaningful. I contribute to the rapidly growing AI industry, which is set to revolutionize various fields, including medicine, education, and industrial automation. This job not only sharpens my understanding of civil engineering through related prompts but also enhances my communication skills. The discipline of hard work and minimal supervision has become ingrained in me.

Advice for aspiring AI Tutors

You don’t need technical knowledge or to be a tech guru to become an AI Tutor. All you need is a passion for writing, the ability to adapt and learn, and a willingness to implement feedback. With a positive mindset and a desire for continual self-improvement, you too can succeed in the world of AI and transform your life—just as I have.
