Keeping Mindrift fair: Our approach to fraud prevention

As online earning and gig platforms grow, fraudsters are finding creative ways to “hack” the systems, so to speak. Incognia’s State of Fraud in the Gig Economy report shows that “51% of teams reported fraud tool spending increased in 2025, and 83% expect spending to increase or hold steady in 2026.”

Like any earning platform, Mindrift keeps a close eye on fraudulent activity taking place on the platform and we take fraud very seriously.

That’s why we wanted to provide transparency and cover some topics related to fraud, including account security, verification, what happens when accounts change hands, and why some tasks don't get paid.

How we monitor for fraud

Fraud monitoring isn't a one-time check at sign-up — it's ongoing. We look at both the quality of the work being submitted and the patterns around how accounts and tasks are being used. Most fraud follows recognizable shapes:

  • Unusual activity on an account

  • Tasks completed in ways prohibited in our Terms of Use

  • Signs that an account is being accessed by someone other than its owner

We don't publish the specifics of how detection works, for the same reason a bank doesn't publish its fraud algorithms — but the short version is that the more unusual the pattern, the more likely it is to get a closer look.

Protecting your account

The single most effective thing you can do to protect your earnings is simple: never share your account login details with anyone. This matters more than it might seem.

If your credentials are leaked or shared, even accidentally, we are not able to recover access or funds on your behalf. That's not a policy choice we're being strict about for its own sake. Once someone else has your login, we have no reliable way to tell "the real you" apart from whoever else is now using the account.

Prevention has to happen before that point, not after. A few simple habits to keep your account secure go a long way:

  • Change your email, social media, and account passwords periodically

  • Store your passwords securely (a password manager is a good option)

  • Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever it's available

If you ever suspect your account has been compromised, contact support right away. The sooner we know, the higher the chance we may be able to help.

What happens if you hand your account to someone else

Sometimes an account changes hands — a Trainer shares access with a friend, hands their account to someone else entirely, or sells their account online. Mindrift does not tolerate these types of actions because they create real risk, opening the door to fraud being carried out in that person's name, using their account.

When this happens, we apply limitations to the account. These can range from a warning up to a permanent block, depending on the situation. We deliberately don't commit to a fixed penalty for every case, because the right response depends on what actually happened. The goal is to stop fraud, not to punish every situation identically.

If you believe a limitation has been applied unfairly, there's an appeals process available. The first step is simply to contact support and explain the situation in detail. The full process is set out in our Terms of Service.

Why we ask for verification

Verification isn't unique to Mindrift. It's standard practice across financial services, banking apps, and any platform that handles personal data — and we hold ourselves to the same standard. We may request verification at any stage, including while you're in the middle of completing a task.

That last part sometimes surprises people but here’s why we do it: verification isn't tied to a single moment like sign-up because fraud doesn't only happen at sign-up. Checking at other points helps confirm that the person completing tasks is consistently the account's real owner and that keeps both the account and earnings safe. Verification can take a few forms, depending on the situation:

  • A document check

  • A selfie

  • Video identification (a live video call)

Each method covers something the others don't, which is part of why more than one may be used.

Why buying, selling, or renting an account is a form of fraud

It might seem like a shortcut — buying access to an existing account rather than starting from scratch. In practice, it's one of the more damaging things a person can do, on both sides of the transaction.

If you buy an account from a third party, you're taking on real financial risk with very little protection: there's no guarantee the account works as promised, and no path to recovering your money if it doesn't.

Meanwhile, the original account owner (the person who actually built that account) gets blocked. There's no version of this where everyone comes out fine. Mindrift never tolerates these types of actions and the safest and only sustainable path is to build and use your own account.

Automated tools and unpaid tasks

Our Terms of Service outlines prohibited automated methods, including bots, scripts, and AI agents used to complete tasks, unless a specific task explicitly permits it. If we detect that tasks were completed using prohibited services or agents, or by fraudsters, those tasks will not be paid.

This isn't just an enforcement detail. It exists to protect the integrity of the work itself and the earnings of Trainers who are doing the tasks as intended. Automation undermines both.

Keep your account and earnings safe

Fraud prevention on Mindrift comes down to a handful of connected ideas: we monitor for it, you help protect your own account, verification confirms you are who you say you are, and unpaid or limited accounts are a last resort rather than a first response.

If you have questions about any of this, or concerns about your own account, reach out to support — they're the right first stop whether you're reporting a compromised account or just want more detail on how any of this works.
