Could you share some details about your professional journey?

With a background in writing and journalism, I've always been passionate about language and communication. Recently, I've taken on a new role as an AI Tutor at Mindrift, where I'm excited to merge my expertise with the world of artificial intelligence.


How has your experience been since joining?

My journey with Mindrift as an AI Tutor in the writing department has been nothing short of game-changing. From leveraging my freelance writing skills to tapping into my mass communication and journalism experience from Jomo Kenyatta University, the two worlds have dovetailed so well. Every step brings me closer to the fascinating world of AI and doing what I love.


What made you decide to give this experience a try?

To me, becoming an AI Tutor felt like a natural progression, driven by an innate quest to explore innovative uses of my skills and talents. I seized the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of language. Simply put, experiencing firsthand how AI can revolutionize communication on a large scale was too compelling to resist. 

In what way do you see your new role making a difference?

What resonates most about being an AI Tutor working on Mindrift is the profound sense of contributing to something substantial. Within this role, I help address biases and ensure AI's responses are respectful and accurate. AI is smart, but there’s still a lot to learn. Knowing that my efforts enhance various aspects of learning and writing, rendering them more accessible and efficient for all, fills me with a deep sense of satisfaction.

How has being an AI Tutor impacted your life?

Since I started working on Mindrift, it’s been nothing short of an adventure. I’ve had the privilege to help make AI smarter and more adaptable to different learning styles. This role has significantly sharpened my critical thinking, creativity, and adaptability skills, which are crucial for future success. It encapsulates the principle of lifelong learning, ensuring relevance in an ever-changing landscape.

Was there a big learning curve during onboarding?

Yes, and no. Given my professional background in writing and communications, the onboarding felt rather seamless. But I can say this: being an AI Tutor demands rigor in time management and organizational skills, which has been a plus for my personal life and career. It’s a case of taking ownership while prioritizing collaboration as a team. Balancing this role alongside other responsibilities has really emphasized the importance of flexibility and using technology to its fullest.

Any words of advice to newcomers?

When it comes to training AI, human insight remains super important. AI still has a lot to learn from us about language, culture, and context. For those considering a career in the intersection of AI and education, the ability to adapt quickly to new developments is essential. Also, actively participating in the AI community and staying updated with the latest trends can greatly enrich the satisfaction you derive from your career.
