Being the one to teach AI skills is such an important job

Interview recap

Izet, with a background in civil and economic engineering, transitioned from family business projects to studying in Austria. Drawn by AI's potential, he became an AI Tutor at Mindrift, merging his engineering skills with AI development.

He enjoys problem-solving and the continuous learning his role offers. Izet balances freelancing with personal life effortlessly, valuing both work and family. Active in the Mindrift Discord community, he collaborates and seeks advice. Izet believes generative AI will significantly impact engineering and beyond, making this role ideal for those passionate about technology and innovation.

What’s your professional background and education?

After finishing high school, I studied civil engineering as it was our family business. I had already been involved in many projects with the family firm so I had a lot of knowledge in this area.

After finishing college in Bosnia, I quickly realised that there were a lot of opportunities in Europe – particularly in Austria. There, I continued my studies in economic engineering. Although the projects I was involved in were mainly in construction and design, I was drawn towards business and economics.

Why have you decided to try working as an AI Tutor?

I have been impressed with AI since I saw the first chatbots and started using them. I believe that AI will shape our future in terms of assistance and even completing engineering tasks.

Knowledge is power and who else has the most knowledge than large databases of information? AI gives us the power to quickly read, understand and adapt information for any problem we’re confronted with. Being the one to teach AI such skills is such an important job and that’s what really moved me to apply for the role of a civil engineering expert AI Tutor.

What do you like the most about this role?

The short answer is that I have a passion for problem-solving. As an engineer, I love to be able to offer safe, working and effective solutions for any problem. I like to think about it as a game that I can try and win. The other great thing about this is being able to expand knowledge that I already have. And it’s free!

How do you find the balance between freelancing and your life outside of Mindrift?

I consider myself a hardworking guy. When I work, I disconnect from the world and the work has my undivided attention. I love to think about work and the things I learn when jogging or working out. The balance is not hard to find when you love what you do. The important thing is that you don’t forget about family and friends and always make the best of the time you spend with them.

Are you active in Mindrift’s Discord community? If so, what do you usually use it for?

The Mindrift Discord community is awesome. I have found people that I can share my opinions with or talk through any problems that we have on a project. I love discussing structure and uncertainties with QAs and listening to their opinions. The community can be used in various ways to improve our work or solve problems. It has really good dynamics and you can always turn to it in times of trouble.

How do you feel about the role you are playing in the development of generative AI?

It's amazing to be in this project, especially in the AI Tutoring role. I love being part of developing the most advanced technology that will make people’s lives easier and that will, for sure, shape the future. It makes me feel good to use my expertise to contribute to this.

Do you think generative AI will play an important role in your future?

Certainly, it will. Sooner or later, AI will be able to do much more than any engineer or designer. It will be the best assistant, the best designer, the best expert in any field of engineering and not only engineering, medicine, economy, law and much more. We just have to learn how to use it properly.

What would you say to a person who might be considering this role?

This role is great for people who love to spend hours understanding complex problems and finding the best solutions. If you love research, problem-solving and improving technology, this is the role for you. I would recommend it to people who love working from home or to people who love travelling and working.

If you feel comfortable sharing – we'd love to learn more about you outside of your professional life. How does Mindrift fit into your lifestyle?

I love being free to move from place to place and be able to work anywhere I go. I bring my workstation with me and go to visit my family and friends. After I have enjoyed their company and rested my brain and body, I can always pick my laptop and work. This role offers me freedom and satisfaction and makes me able to enjoy my life.
