Are my tests used to train AI?

Are my tests used to train AI?

We understand that the recruitment process can feel daunting, especially in a fast-moving field such as AI. And one concern we’ve heard from potential candidates is whether the tests they complete during the recruitment process are being used to train AI models. We’re keen to clarify this misconception and give you a transparent view of how our recruitment process works and the exciting opportunities that await you if you join our fast-growing community.

The recruitment process – what to expect

CV screening
Our recruitment journey begins with a thorough CV screening to make sure candidates have the relevant experience for the role they’re applying for. This step is crucial in narrowing down the pool of applicants, especially for domain-specific roles. However, for positions that require strong writing or editing skills, we take it one step further to verify potential candidates' proficiency through additional testing. This ensures that the best fit is selected for our unique needs.

The importance of testing
Given the high volume of applications we receive, testing is a really crucial part of our recruitment process. This allows us to efficiently understand a candidate's ability to follow instructions, their attention to detail and their overall proficiency in writing or editing. These tests are designed to ensure that candidates possess the necessary skills to thrive in the role– skills that go beyond what’s typically captured on a CV.

Onboarding
Even candidates with domain expertise undergo a comprehensive onboarding process. This is to ensure that they understand how to write specifically for AI, which is a unique and valuable skill set. Our onboarding is carefully tailored to help every candidate succeed, providing them with the tools and knowledge they need to contribute effectively to our projects.

Are my tests used to train AI?

One of the most common misconceptions is that the tests candidates complete are used to train AI models. However, this is not the case. The primary purpose of these tests is to assess your skills, not to gather data for AI training.

Think of our tests like a driving test. When you take a driving test, the goal is to assess your ability to drive, not to collect data to improve cars. Similarly, our tests are designed to evaluate your writing skills, not to contribute to AI training. The focus here is entirely on assessing your abilities to ensure you're a good fit for the role.

Facts and figures
To train an AI model, vast amounts of data are required – often millions of data points. For instance, training one single AI model might involve processing and analysing billions of words – equivalent to hundreds of thousands of books or the entire content of the internet over several years. By contrast, the data from candidate tests is minuscule and not sufficient to train AI. Read more in our detailed explanation here: Anatomy of GenAI.
